Inside Foo Fighters’ gory new horror movie: “It’s 'Scooby Doo' meets 'Spinal Faucet' meets 'The Evil Lifeless'”

Hey guys, the place’d the concept for a Foo Fighters horror movie come from?

Dave Grohl: “Hey! A good friend of mine put the concept in my ear, and my preliminary response was that it was horrible. It wasn’t one thing that we’d ever do. However the studio we recorded the final document, ‘Medication At Midnight‘, at was in an outdated and creepy home. So I began to assume: ‘We may simply carry some cameras in right here and shoot one thing shortly, very low-budget, that our viewers may get a kick out of!”

Give me a one-line teaser for the film

DG: “It’s form of like Scooby Doo meets Spinal Faucet meets The Evil Lifeless.”

Nate, how did the band react when Dave pitched the movie to you?

Nate Mendel: “We liked it as a result of it was so audacious. We’re so unqualified to make a film, however we by no means took classes to know play music or be in a band and that turned out OK, perhaps we might be in a film too!”

How a lot prep did you all do?

DG: “Considered one of us went and took performing classes with out telling anyone. I’m not going to say who it was. You’ll have to look at the movie and choose for your self. It clearly wasn’t the 2 of us!”

Have both of you ever had actual life supernatural experiences?

NM: “Oh I want. I’m simply ready for a ghost to look but it surely hasn’t occurred but.”

DG: “I’ve…”

Go on, Dave…

DG: “I moved right into a home in Seattle in 1993. It was a brand new home constructed on the fringe of a forest and little issues began occurring: noises, movement detectors going off. That quickly ramped up into doorways opening on their very own or I’d really feel like somebody was proper behind me always. Then I had these recurring nightmares the place this outdated girl could be standing taking a look at me. She was barefoot in a gray sweater and this bizarre, soiled blue skirt. She was lined in mud and her hair was all fucked up. It obtained to the purpose the place I’d hear footsteps within the kitchen…”

NM: “Yeesh!”

DG: “Yeah. It wasn’t so dangerous that I wished to maneuver although. I simply form of stayed there and felt creeped out for 2 and a half years.”

Who was in control of getting Lionel Richie within the movie?

DG: “Properly Lionel‘s scene was written into the script by the screenwriters with out them realising that I truly know that dude. And so after I learn the script, I laughed hysterically at that specific scene and picked up my telephone and texted him. I mentioned: ‘Hey man, we’re making a horror movie – do you wanna be in it?’ and he mentioned: ‘Completely my brother.’ I feel he was on the set of American Idol after I was texting him. It was fairly fucking hilarious.”

And what about John Carpenter?

DG: “Our lighting man Dan, who’s been with us for one million years, as soon as went on the highway with John Carpenter. So when Dan came upon we have been making a horror movie he mentioned: ‘Hey I do know John Carpenter, it is best to electronic mail him and discover out if he’ll make a cameo!’ And naturally I believed there’s no manner that he would ever be concerned with one thing on this degree. However he emailed again and mentioned that we had taken his child’s [Cody Carpenter] band on the highway like 15 years in the past. And so to return the favour, he was not solely in our movie however he wrote the theme music too. He’s a get up dude. We hit the jackpot.”

Dave, we wouldn’t be NME if we didn’t ask you about working with Liam Gallagher on his new music ‘All the things’s Electrical’…

DG: “Properly, sadly we didn’t do it in individual however I like being in the identical room as Liam. It’s like placing a fucking quarter in a juke field and simply turning it up with that man. It’s fucking nice. Clearly, he’s a tremendous singer and he’s a fucking rock star. He is among the few final remaining rock stars.”

How did the collab come about?

DG: “He was singing [‘Everything’s Electric’] with the producer Greg Kurstin and so they wanted a beat which I feel was described as one thing ‘Sabotage’-esque [Beastie Boys] and so I fucking served it up. I served up the beats. And the fucking single turned out nice. I like that music I actually do. I used to be dancing to it the opposite evening..”

What did you make of his new hat?

DG: “I didn’t see the hat. Oh I did see the hat! It’s like an Elmer Fudd hat?”

NM: “Yeah dude however don’t say something in regards to the hat or it’ll find yourself in a pull quote and also you’ll have a fucking battle in your arms!”

DG: “There you go, alright. I find it irresistible! Nice hat!”

And what about new Foo Fighters music – is there any within the pipeline?

DG: “Not in the mean time. We’ve been too wrapped up being film stars to write down rock songs.”

OK, then inform me about touring – you’re coming over right here in the summertime proper?

DG: “We’re gonna be bouncing across the planet for the subsequent 10 months. When all the pieces shut down in 2020 [because of COVID], I feel all of us felt the sting that we’d been on the highway just about our complete profession. However when it was taken away from us, everybody wished it again much more and we begged for a tour. We begged for exhibits after which we obtained this itinerary by way of and I used to be like: ‘Oh my god what have been we considering? Holy shit that’s lots of exhibits!’ I feel there’s 70 or extra developing. However hallelujah brother I can’t wait.”
